Portraiture Week: Final Cut

Image
This week we focused on people, and portraiture. It definitely pushed me outside of my comfort zone. Although sometimes it was stressful at the end of the week I am thankful to have grown. I shot a few times outside of class, once in my dorm, trying for portraits, and twice in the MUB, trying for portraits of my roommate Sophie.  Here are the contact sheets: The final images came from 1. our group work exercise in and around PCAC and Kingsbury, 2. my dorm photo shoot, and 3. the 2 sessions Sophie and I did at the MUB. These were my final shots. If I could've done anything differently I would've brought my tripod to the MUB and done more late-night self portraits. I also would've done more shoots, and tried to capture pictures of unknowing strangers. The color/white balance in some of my prints ended up funky, I'd like to work towards sharpening my skills on that in the future. ...

Portrait Week - Group Work 2: Amalgamations

Image
Another group work day in the studio, this time in-studio with lighting! We had to work together to take headshots of one another, and then make a composite of all of our images. Here's what we had to work with in terms of headshots! We decided to use a dog as a prop in our second round of photos. The pictures came out so well, I even made one my profile picture on FB! Here is one of the amalgamations: I was sick on Wednesday and I missed the second day of lab work. I'm still working on the second amalgamation.

Portraiture Week - Group Work

Image
This week we're studying portraiture. We started the week with a group exercise/photo hunt, and I learned a lot; I'm a little nervous to be so up-close and personal. Not only that, but I'm worried I'll butcher someone's self image and portray them in a light which is not in the realm of their authentic selves. I much prefer still-life photography, but I think this week will be a good chance for me to grow as an artist and photographer. This weeks task: understanding color balance and an intro to self portraits! These were my favorite photos from the shoot: As always, Jim is a great model to work with! Kallysta was also really willing to jump in and help me experiment.
